Restored Provencal Farmhouse

F is for Friday, Fabulous and France. So, let's go right over and enjoy these photographs. It took all of nine years for Madeline and Eric to restore this 18th century farmhouse. Anchored to the hillside among oak trees it is located in Saou, which is a commune in the Drôme department in south-eastern France. The building was practically in ruins with no roof, no water supply and the surroundings were so overgrown it was even hard to get near the house.

Reclaimed and authentic materials were used for the restoration.

An external staircase made with local sandstone connects the lower terraces to the main courtyard.

An olive tree provides some shade by the pool which was built on the terrace below the garden.

Patio with staircase which leads to the bedrooms.

Recovered front door made of oak.

A stone arch separates the living area from the dining room. Stone fireplace and custom made chandelier.

A window in oak with wrought iron fittings. Draperies in linen made by Madeleine.

Counter tops and large sink in stone.

Antique oak washstand topped with a blue stone tablet in the master bathroom.

Antique brass sconces over fir wood headboards in the guest room.

A summer kitchen to enjoy the Mediterranean weather with a herb garden close at hand.

Moroccan table and iron chairs under a gazebo surrounded by stone walls.

Hope you liked the tour. Have a lovely Friday!
